Anthony Alonso Jr. , DMD
Dr. Alonso was born and raised in Coral Gables, Florida. He is the second oldest of six children.
Education & Training
He graduated high school from Palmer Trinity School, as the class valedictorian in 1994. Dr. Alonso attended Duke University, where he received a Bachelors of Science in Biology in 1998. After taking a year off to teach high school science and math, he entered dental school at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston in 1999.
While at Tufts, Dr. Alonso received many awards including those for Clinical Excellence in Endodontics, as the top student in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, being on the Dean’s list every semester, recognition for having the top score on the National Dental Board exam, and being inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society.
He graduated from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, Summa Cum Laude, receiving the degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine. Dr. Alonso stayed at Tufts for his specialty training in Endodontics, where he had a perfect 4.0 GPA and received a Certificate in Endodontics in 2005. After his specialty training was completed, Dr. Alonso and his family returned to Miami to start his practice and settle down.
Involvement In Endodontic Organizations
Dr. Alonso has dedicated himself to becoming the best Endodontist and has furthered his studies by achieving status as a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. Board Certification in Endodontics is a process that takes years to achieve. Dr. Alonso is one of only four Board Certified Endodontists in Miami Dade County out of a total of 43 practicing Endodontists.
Dr. Alonso is actively involved in many dental organizations. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. Dr. Alonso is a member of the American Association of Endodontists, the Florida Association of Endodontists, the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, The Pierre Fauchard Academy, the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society, the American Dental Association, the Florida Dental Association, the South Florida District Dental Association, the Miami Dade Dental Society, the Seattle Study Club, and the Granada Study Club.
Community Service
Dr. Alonso donates his time to the Baptist Health Systems. He is currently serving on three separate boards for Baptist. He is on the board of directors for Baptist Health Outpatient Services, Baptist Health Enterprises and West Kendall Baptist Hospital. Dr. Alonso has donated time to teaching dental residents and to community service. Dr. Alonso was the past Co-Chairman of Endodontics for the Community Smiles Program at the Dade Country Dental Research Facility. The Community Smiles Program provides dental care to the underserved in the Miami area.
Family Life & Hobbies
Away from the practice of endodontics, Dr. Alonso is very active. When he is not spending time with his wife and three daughters, Dr. Alonso is usually outdoors running or off-roading in the everglades. He has completed over 8 full marathons, 20+ half marathons and community fund raising races.
